This month I released two app updates, one for First Contact and another for Capturebot. Both releases center around color tags and star ratings with new options for getting more information about the metadata.

First Contact

In this update First Contact now reads metadata from your images, one of the most requested features.

Color tags and star ratings can now be shown in the image label. The metadata can be shown either on the same line as the image label or separately. The rating can also be displayed as a full star rating or with an abbreviated form with just the rating number.

The metadata now powers image sorting, allowing photos to be sorted after import, including the ability to manually order in the sidebar. Images can be sorted by filename, date, rating, color tag, and much more.

There are also several new layout options. Images can be centered vertically useful for contact sheets with both landscape and portrait images, especially on portrait pages. The labels can also be aligned in a single row in additional to hugging the image.

Finally, First Contact can now print its own contact sheets.

Capturebot

The changes to Capturebot are smaller, but add important features for making selects. This update adds two ways to see the total number of images which have been rated or tagged.

Within the Shotlist Overview columns for the percentage of rated or tagged files can be added by right-clicking on the table header. When doing an initial culling for a large shoot some clients prefer to have a target percentage of frames selected and these columns provide a per-shot breakdown.

The percentages have also been added to the sidebar providing both the total number of rated and tagged files for the entire shoot.

A preference has been added to show Guided Import automatically when making a new document allowing the most common options to be quickly set.

Both updates are available now via the in-app updaters or can be downloaded directly from their product pages.
